Emotions-Centred Life Coaching in Singapore: A New Lens for Clarity, Connection, and Change

Discover Emotions-Centred Life Coaching with Ignatius Quek — a Singapore-based coach who helps you partner with your emotions to make clearer decisions and lead with calm.

Introduction: Why We Need a New Kind of Coaching

In Singapore’s fast-paced, results-driven culture, most people learn to think clearly — but not to feel clearly.

We attend workshops to plan goals and optimise performance, yet few spaces help us understand what drives our behaviour beneath the surface: our emotions.

Emotions-Centred Coaching bridges that gap. It brings the science of emotional awareness, the art of coaching, and the wisdom of the body together — to help individuals make decisions and form goals that truly align with their values, needs, and well-being.

What Is Emotions-Centred Coaching?

Emotions-Centred Coaching is a salutogenic, strengths-based approach that views emotions not as obstacles, but as information — signals pointing toward our needs, values, and boundaries.

Instead of teaching clients to control or suppress feelings, it helps them partner with emotions as allies in growth, relationships, and leadership.

At My Inner Child Clinic, we define it as:

> A coaching process that brings awareness to emotions as sources of intelligence — guiding clearer choices, stronger relationships, and healthier self-leadership.

It integrates:

Polyvagal Theory (Dr Stephen Porges) – understanding your nervous-system responses.

The Window of Tolerance – recognising your optimal zone of emotional regulation.

Whole-Brain Integration – linking logic (left brain) and empathy (right brain).

Salutogenic Psychology – focusing on strengths and meaning, not deficits.

This approach can be applied to life decisions, in business, management, relationships and for better self governance.

🚫 What It Is Not

Emotions-Centred Coaching is not therapy.

It doesn’t diagnose, treat, or excavate the past. Instead, it focuses on the present and future — helping clients respond to their current emotions with awareness and choice.

It’s also not motivational coaching or “positive-vibes-only.”

While many coaching styles push for mindset change, Emotions-Centred Coaching focuses first on emotional literacy — because clarity in feeling leads to clarity in action.

Our style is curious, introspective and benefits from an intentional study of our body's responses to the emotions as they surface, and addressing the needs and beliefs to augment logic and rationale that normally begins with - I should be, I ought to, I need to, I must...

💡 My Approach: Partnering with Emotions, Not Fighting Them

In every session, we begin where the client is, not where they “should be.”

The process moves gently between awareness, understanding, and integration.

1. Safety & Regulation – Grounding the nervous system and returning to the Window of Tolerance

2. Awareness of Emotions – Identifying emotions as sensations, impulses, or needs

3. Regulating Emotions – Using breath, posture, or reflection to stay in the green zone

4. Defining & Understanding – Asking, “What is this emotion protecting or requesting?”

5. Integration & Reflection – Transforming insight into small, aligned actions
