The need to de-stress in Singapore through hypnotherapy

Singapore consistently ranks as her one of the most stressful countries in the world, with a stress index of 7.5 out of 10 for her. This is due to many factors such as high cost of living, competitive work environment and pressure to succeed. The data comes from the World Health Organization's (WHO) Global Burden of Disease Survey, the world's largest and most comprehensive health survey.

The Singapore Mental Health Survey is a large-scale mental health survey conducted by the Institute of Mental Health in Singapore.

The Singapore Mental Health Survey was conducted in 2016 and 2017 and included more than 6,000 Singaporeans aged 16 and over. The study found that 1 in 8 Singaporeans experience a mental health problem at some point in their lives, and that the most common mental health problems in Singapore are depression, anxiety and substance abuse. It turns out there is.

The study also found that mental health problems were more common among women, the unemployed, and those on low incomes. Understanding stress and its impact on success.

Stress is a common phenomenon in today's fast-paced world. It affects individuals mentally and physically, affecting their ability to perform at their best. High levels of stress can lead to burnout, decreased productivity, and even health problems. When stress becomes an impediment to success, it is important to deal with it effectively.

How hypnotherapy works

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that allows individuals to access their subconscious mind and bring about positive changes in their thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not about losing control or being manipulated. It is a state of deep relaxation and heightened concentration in which the individual is in total control.

During a hypnotherapy session, a trained hypnotherapist guides the patient into a state of relaxation and uses a variety of techniques to access the subconscious mind. By bypassing the analytical thinking of the conscious mind, hypnotherapists help individuals redefine negative beliefs, release emotional blocks, and introduce new and empowering thoughts and behaviours. To do.

Hypnotherapy for mood regulation and reframing negative beliefs.

During therapy, I employ in a salutogenic approach to uncovering inner resources, capabilities, virtues and strengths to build up my clients’ dignity and hope.

This is the backbone of establishing a safe space to be vulnerable. In order to feel safe, the client must be able to feel calm and regulated before recounting past and possibly traumatic experiences. This is done through breathing exercises and through hypnotic induction.

It is important to remember that there is no shame in seeking help. Mental health problems are just like any other health problem, and they can be treated effectively. In fact, the initial reaction from the body isn’t the problem. It is a normal response. What is important to develop would be skills and habits that would help guide the person’s decisions before and after an emotional trigger.

If a person recognises the body’s stress response as triggered by a fight-flight-freeze response as a normal bodily function, then there is a tendency that any sense of shame and guilt of seeing a therapist can be reframed.

The process of reframing thoughts and beliefs is firstly to recognise the stress response as a natural physiological response rather than a problem. Next is to search for capabilities, inner resources, virtues and strengths in my clients. In this journey, seeds of possibilities are planted so there is hope to address the traumatic experience or stress trigger.

Through hypnotherapy and teaching self-hypnosis, my clients learn to anchor themselves in positive states to build mental resilience when triggers arise.

Benefits of Hypnotherapy for Goal Achievement

Hypnotherapy offers many benefits for those who want to reach their goals. First, it helps identify and address underlying limiting beliefs that may be holding you back. These beliefs are often deeply ingrained in the subconscious and difficult to change consciously. Through hypnotherapy, a person can reprogram their subconscious mind to suit their goals and aspirations.

In addition, hypnotherapy increases motivation and focus. By harnessing the power of the subconscious mind, a person can access their inner drive and determination and stay true to their goals in the face of adversity. Hypnotherapy also helps individuals develop a positive mindset, thereby overcoming self-doubt and developing self-confidence.

Where attention flows, energy grows. In a state of focused attention, a client can be led to an entirely different and more positive state when stressed or just before encountering a potentially stressful situation.

Success stories of Singaporeans who have used hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy has transformed the lives of many Singaporeans, helping them overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. One such success story is Jane Lim (not her real name), a young professional who struggled with public speaking anxiety. Despite being talented and knowledgeable in her field, Jane's fear of speaking in front of others held her back from advancing in her career.

After a few hypnotherapy sessions, Jane experienced a significant reduction in her anxiety. She learned to reframe her thoughts and beliefs about public speaking, realising that it could be an opportunity for growth rather than something to fear. With newfound confidence, Jane started volunteering to speak at company meetings. Her improved communication skills and increased self-assurance propelled her career to new heights.

Research and statistics on the effectiveness of hypnotherapy

The effectiveness of hypnotherapy is supported by scientific research and studies. A meta-analysis conducted by Stanford University found that hypnotherapy was highly effective in reducing anxiety and stress levels. Another study published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology showed that hypnotherapy resulted in significant improvements in goal attainment, self-esteem, and overall well-being.

These findings highlight the potential of hypnotherapy as a valuable tool for personal growth and success. As more individuals recognise its benefits, the demand for qualified hypnotherapists continues to grow.

Finding a qualified hypnotherapist in Singapore

When seeking the services of a hypnotherapist, it's essential to ensure they are properly trained, certified, and experienced. The Singapore Hypnosis Association (SHA) is a reputable organisation that provides a directory of certified hypnotherapists in Singapore. Their website offers a comprehensive list of professionals who have met the association's rigorous standards.

It's also crucial to consider the hypnotherapist's specialization and areas of expertise. Some hypnotherapists specialize in stress management, while others focus on weight loss, smoking cessation, or sports performance enhancement. Choosing a hypnotherapist who aligns with your goals and needs will maximise the effectiveness of the sessions.

At My Inner Child Clinic, I incorporate both psychotherapy and hypnotherapy using the salutogenic approach to trauma recovery. This is especially important because when properly applied, hypnotherapy expedites the healing process but the conscious mind has to work in an integrated manner through various therapy techniques to achieve the desired therapeutic outcome.

Other complementary techniques for success alongside hypnotherapy

While hypnotherapy can be highly effective on its own, combining it with other complementary techniques can further enhance your journey to success. Here are some techniques that work well in conjunction with hypnotherapy:

1. Mindfulness meditation: Practicing mindfulness meditation can help cultivate self-awareness and reduce stress. It complements hypnotherapy by enhancing focus and promoting a calm and centred state of mind.

2. Affirmations and visualisation: Using positive affirmations and visualisation techniques can reinforce the new beliefs and behaviours developed during hypnotherapy. Visualising success and repeating affirmations can help program the subconscious mind for achievement.

3. Sports and physical activities are very beneficial for stress relief. Our Emotions Coach Ignatius Quek particularly enjoys booking a tennis lesson to let the emotions out through physical movement.

4. Goal setting and action planning: Setting clear goals and creating a strategic action plan can provide direction and motivation. Work with your hypnotherapist to align your hypnotherapy sessions with your overall goals and action steps.

Together with Calm3d.com we co-designed immersive environments for stress relief and adopt technologies such as virtual reality to support our clients between therapy sessions.

We do this so that every individual can learn and build resilience and decide their response when emotional triggers arise.

This solution is being deployed by youth mental wellbeing organisation Over The Rainbow Singapore.
